The Rössl Radia Show
The Palais Rössl is a cross-generational, multidisciplinary, growing symbiotic network of artists, musicians, designers and cultural practitioners in the heart of Vienna, as well as a hybrid entity transcending time and space, open to interconnections of all kinds. We share a love of communal spaces and poetic-political co-creation, with sound and soundproduction serving as a strong binding force.
Spanning 700 m², the space is home to art studios, music studios, rehearsal rooms, workshops, exhibition spaces, communal areas and a garden for fish.
Two members of the Viennese Radia collective - Karl H. Schönswetter and Lale Rodgarkia-Dara - as well as a former member, Maria Herold, are key contributors to the Palais Rössl. Maria Herold collected sound clips from artists at the Palais Rössl which provide an acoustic insight into the ‘Soundpalais Rössl’.
At the Radia Show No. 1121 “The Rössl Radia Show” you will listen to the work of Auto Sophia, Bassano, TJ Tall, Lale Rodgarkia-Dara, Herrror and The Sir Teens. The Show is embedded by the live-performance of “under the given circumstances” by JUUN and Lale Rodgarkia-Dara at the Re-Compose-Festival 2021.
Arranged by Karl H. Schönswetter, with the help of Maria Herold and Lale Rodgarkia-Dara.
Radio Tecnicolor
The Vienna-based Radia Collective presents the live session “Radio Tecnicolor” featuring Stefan Nussbaumer and Georg Zichy. You are listening to a recording from 9 April 2026 at Basislager – Stefan Nussbaumer’s studio in 1150 Vienna. The concert was produced specifically for Radia transmission no. 1098.
You will hear an interweaving of sound and image, in which the video data controls the sound. There is a digital and analogue feedback loop, and radio sounds serve as the connecting element. An app programmed by Stefan Nussbaumer converts colour data into OSC signals. In this way, the sound is controlled by 54 pixels and two human beings.
Concept, production & performance: Stefan Nussbaumer & Georg Zichy
Video & audio recording: Lale Rodgarkia-Dara
Mixing: Karl Schönswetter
Photos: Karl Schönswetter, Georg Zichy
The performance can also be viewed in the video on radia.fm.
Are you up for it?
What became of the Library of Alexandria? It seems to have fallen victim to the flames. Just like our beautiful jingle. Only remnants of it remain, because we allowed ourselves to play with fire in this programme. We were amazed at how many levels there are links between the element of fire and radio! It starts with the German word “Funkfeuer” (radio beacon) and ends with Telefunken and lightning. We enjoy the convivial warmth of the campfire and marvel at electromagnetic inventiveness.
A programme featuring sonic illusions and surprising parallel universes.
Production and recordings by Barbara Huber, Barbara Kaiser, Fabi Lux, Stefan Nussbaumer & Karl Schönswetter. Contains industrial recordings by kwandalist.
Arrangement & mixing by Karl Schönswetter.
From our Elements series. Previously released: Earth, Water and Metal.
Jukebox Utopia’s Snapshot
Today’s radia programme from the RADIA-Kollektiv-Vienna features the anthropologist Bianca Ludewig who researches music and sound and plays with records as Jukebox Utopia. She will introduce her radio piece Jukebox Utopia’s Snapshot that was part of the 2023 project Contingent Snapshot.
The following piece is a sound collage she produced as a contribution for the Contingent Snapshot project by Eugenia Seriakov and Francesco Zedde, which took place in Linz in September 2023 as part of STWST48hours open Radiolab and was broadcasted on various international radio stations. The core of the 12-hour programme consisted of contributions by the two curators exploring the facets and sounds of Linz, live improvisations by local and international musicians and sound contributions from their open call. For her audio snapshot, she associatively edited together found footage, sound pieces from her music archive and field recordings to create an audio essay for your enjoyment.
