MUSIC IS MURDER
Мартин Џорлев – Музиката е отепувачка
This episode captures the closing moments of Kanal 103’s marathon broadcast marking 81 years of Macedonian Radio, on 28.12.2025.
After more than 15 hours on air and a never-ending closing live session, the scheduled program slowly dissolved into an open situation. Recorded around 4am, as the night tipped into morning, the studio shifted into a different mode. Using the station computer, Martin Djorlev began mixing live from multiple internet sources, navigating streams, fragments, and digital noise in real time.
What emerged was an unplanned deep drone / ambient mix, imperfect, glitchy, unbalanced, marked by signal cracks and bleed from an old mixer worn down by years of use. Slow and immersive, the sound hovers somewhere between exhaustion and focus. A live navigation through online audio, shaped by the moment, the hour, and the accumulated energy of the broadcast.
Martin Djorlev is a central figure in the new Macedonian music scene. Active across projects, genres, and formats, he plays almost nightly, releases constantly, and moves between live performance, composition, and experimentation. This set reflects that momentum, created without preparation, without pause, as if there were no tomorrow.
Recorded live at Kanal 103, Skopje.
End of broadcast, beginning of another space.
Scattered fragments, stray echoes, and uncertain sequences – what is said and what remains unsaid.
“In the Waiting Room” is a sound performance first presented at To Pikap record store in Thessaloniki, Greece, as part of the art exhibition Empty Chairs, which took place in April, 2025.
The piece draws inspiration from Giannis Skarimpas short story “Three Empty Chairs” – a ghost tale that subtly shifts between the comic and the uncanny. In this work, Skarimpas’ peculiar language is stripped away to be reassembled through sound, a world of scattered fragments, stray echoes, and uncertain sequences – what is said and what remains unsaid.

Meet and greet, plug and play.
Blind date at Kanal 103.
Deep into the pandemic, live music felt impossible. But we have Kanal 103, our little capsule in space. Two musicians, strangers until that moment, were brought together for an impromptu live session. This recording captures that initial spark and the genesis of Todor Karakolev’s Will Discuss, a project carelessly abandoned to the thrill of on-the-spot musical encounters.
Will Discuss for the occasion :
Todor Karakolev – electronics
Kristijan Savikj – guitar
Recorded live at Kanal 103 (15.11.2020) as part of the Music & Friendship series.
You know, you enter this room, and everybody is quiet, and that’s like, already a scary thing for like a common person.
Against the backdrop of Slovakia’s terrifying socio-political turmoil, this documentary radio piece explores Bratislava’s vibrant and courageous independent music and cultural scene and some of the community spaces in which it develops. Now they are facing their biggest challenge, to keep it alive and kicking.
We’ve been there (for the bad parts mostly), and we are still stuck there.
From Skopje to Bratislava, with love.

Would you stop your car if there was a balloon on the road ? A big yellow, red balloon on the road ? Probably.
“The Whole World Stopped…” is a collaborative compilation of field recordings, a patchwork of making music and narrating, underedited ad hoc experiment, and also a celebration of friendship, a soundscape where two friends meet—Joana and Stefan, both of them colleagues at Kanal 103.
Joana is a multi-instrumentalist, though her main focus is classical guitar. She does use both classical and electric guitar throughout the recording, as well as bontempi electro-acoustic keyboard and goblet drum. Three minutes into this experimental piece, you can hear Stefan’s voice, first telling about a street scene he witnessed downtown Skopje, then reading a poem from Elizabeth Bishop (“At the Fishhouses”) and a short story from Franz Kafka (“Before the Law”). Finally, in the conclusion, a fusion of washing machine centrifuge and a mandola played with a violin bow.
The work is an undisguised communication between music and storytelling, scarcely premeditated, if at all. Most of it is recorded at Partizan Print, a studio of independent artists in Skopje, and very good friends and collaborators with Kanal 103.
Created by Joana Risteska, classic guitar master and multi-instrumentalist, and Stefan Alijevikj, fiction writer and sound seeker. You can follow their radio shows on Kanal 103 Sunday and Tuesday evenings respectively

The episode consists of an excerpt from the bootleg recording of Shentov, Simitchiev, Lukanov’s performance at the Museum Of Contemporary Art Skopje from July 2022. This was the second performance of the drone trio outside of their native Bulgaria (the first one was a day earlier at the Macedonian radio Kanal 103). The performance took place on the museum patio, with parts of Skopje and the sun setting behind the mountains.
It was part of the Amek Collective & Kontingent Records label showcase organized by KRIK - festival of critical culture in Skopje.
